SEVERE WEATHER: Portage County Twister #1

Lisa DeVore, and her 11-year-old son, Lewie, snapped the only known pictures of the "Deerfield, Ohio Tornado" on July 4th, 2006. The two were traveling home to Alliance from Berlin Lake when they looked up and saw a rotating cloud. The funnel cloud (top photo) was photographed just after 4 pm looking east toward Deerfield at the Rt 224 & 225 intersection. The other picture, an impressive wall cloud, is east of Deerfield taken at the Rt 225 bridge on Berlin Lake before 5 pm. National Weather Service Officials confirmed a brief tornado touchdown on Alliance Road in Deerfield. A weak, F-0 twister (max winds to 72 miles per hour) partially damaged a barn there.
