SEVERE WEATHER: July 4, 2006



Severe thunderstorms rumbled through the northern-most counties of Ohio during the early morning hours of July 4th, 2006. A large cluster of thunderstorms formed over lower Michigan the evening hours of July 3rd and moved east into Western Ohio by midnight. Individual storms evolved into a squall line just after midnight and produced a pronounced "Bow echo" on the Power of 5 Doppler Network radar just east of Sandusky. Straight-line wind damage was reported in the city of Huron in Erie County after 2am. Additional wind damage was reported as the stroms moved eastward through Vermilion in Lorain County and North Olmsted in Cuyahoga County.
A few storms re-developed during the afternoon. A brief, weak tornado touchdown was reported in southeastern Portage County at 4:30 pm. Another weak tornado was tracked by trained storm spotters later in northeast Portage County. after a few brief touchdowns, the storm weakened and moved into Trumbull County.
