Did you feel it? Residents in Lake County felt the earth shake last night. A very small earthquake occurred Thursday night, January 5, 2006, at 10:02 pm. The magnitude 2.6 event was centered about about 6 miles northwest of Mentor-on-the-Lake, Ohio in Lake Erie... or about 23 miles north-northeast of downtown Cleveland. The small quake was felt by several residents in Mentor and Painesville. No damage or injuries have been reported. The area near the Lake Erie shoreline in Lake and Ashtabula Counties has been the center of more than two dozen small earthquakes since the 1980's.
