Cleveland's high temperature officially reached 90 degrees at 3 pm today making this the 16th day this year we've had highs at 90 or above. We average 6 to 8 90 degrees days during a typical summer here in Northern Ohio. This year has definitely been warmer than normal.
Even if it seems hotter than ever this year, we're still not even close to the record for 90 degree weather. The thermometer hit 90-plus degrees on 37 days in both 1952 and 1955. That's the record for most 90 degree days in a year. In second place, both 1953 and 1988 recorded 36 days at 90 degrees or higher.
This past June, Hopkins Airport registered 10 days of 90 degrees or above. That's one shy of the record for June. Back in 1952, we saw 90-plus weather on 11 days.
July's record for 90-degrees highs: 16 days back in 1955 & 1952. August's record stands at 16 days set back in 1947. The earliest 90-degree reading ever in Cleveland is May 9...the latest 90 degree high occurred on October 9th.
